BENNETTSVILLE — The Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. continues to make a meaningful impact through its EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) Program, designed to mentor and empower young males in the community.
On Saturday, March 7, participants gathered for their first session where they discussed the goals of the EMBODI program, explored ideas for upcoming community service projects, and participated in engaging icebreaker activities that allowed the young men to get to know one another and begin building positive relationships. The session created an atmosphere of brotherhood, leadership, and personal growth.
The group met again on Saturday, April 25, for an interactive session focused on preparing participants for success in life. Discussions centered on career paths, helping students navigate professional goals and explore future opportunities; choices, emphasizing the importance of decision-making and understanding long-term consequences; and behavior and etiquette, where participants received a master class on modern manners and social conduct.
The session concluded with The Art of the Tie, a fun, hands-on activity where the young men learned how to properly tie a necktie. With neckties provided for practice, the participants enthusiastically embraced the challenge while gaining a valuable life skill.
Special thanks to Lt. Alex Williams for sharing valuable insights on making positive choices, proper etiquette, and demonstrating the art of tying neckties. Appreciation is also extended to Lance Corporal Reginald Primus for speaking about his experiences as a former EMBODI participant and sharing his career journey in the United States Marine Corps.
Additionally, the chapter gratefully acknowledges the Redding family for their generous donation of neckties, which helped make the hands-on activity possible.
Through mentorship, life skills development, and community engagement, the Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter’s EMBODI Program continues to inspire young males to become confident leaders and productive citizens. Chapter President is Gina Owens, Vice-President and program chair is Margaret Q. Primus.
