At 11:23 a.m., officers observed a wanted female identified as Taquaria Quick outside the community kitchen attempting to conceal her face while passing by officers. Officers drove around the block and found Quick to be walking on McColl Street in the direction of Broad Street. When officers exited their vehicle, Quick took off running toward a church playground. A nearby construction crew alerted officers to the woman fleeing, now towards a nearby bank parking lot. Ultimately officers were able to apprehend Quick near the library. Once taken into custody, Quick was transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center without further incident. Wanted for a drug court violation, court officials were then notified of her apprehension. Quick is also facing a resisting arrest charge filed by the BPD. Case closed by arrest.
At 10:27 a.m., officers responded to a residence located on Wearing Street in response to a report of 90 Lorazepam tablets, value unknown, missing from the home. At the scene, officers spoke with the reporting victim and learned the pills were discovered missing following a get together inside the home the night before. The victim only found the missing medication when he tried to take his prescribed morning dose. Having recently refilled the prescription, the victim was certain of there being 90 pills inside the bottle. The victim said he could not think of anyone who attended the party at his home the night before that was known to use, sale drugs, or even steal. The victim further stated that since his insurance paid for the medication, he needed a police report on file to get his prescription refilled. Case is active.
At 10:04 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop near Hudson and Ayers Streets. A Ford truck was observed driving on Ayers Street without proper lighting. Before officers could switch on their blue lights, the vehicle was also observed failing to stop at an intersection on Ayers Street. Blue lights now activated, the vehicle came to a stop between Hudson and Ayers Streets. Once stopped, the front passenger of the vehicle hopped out claiming he was not involved and then attempted to walk away from the scene. Officers advised him to sit back inside the vehicle and he complied. After approaching the driver’s side of the vehicle, officers observed a white powdery substance, a straw, and burnt aluminum foil on the lap of the driver. During conversations with the driver, the passenger continued to speak over officers and was unable to sit still. Due to the passenger’s actions, officers detained him in handcuffs. While officers detained the passenger, the driver of the vehicle fell asleep. This, combined with the presence of narcotic paraphernalia, led to MCEMS being called to the scene. While waiting for EMS to arrive, officers searched the driver, locating a South Carolina ID identifying Michael Beavers as the driver. In addition to the straw, powdery substance and burnt aluminum foil on the driver’s lap, officers also located syringes, lighters, and a small lockbox filled with a white powdery substance inside Beaver’s pants pockets. Officers ran Beaver’s name through the system, determining he has a suspended license. After also running the vehicle’s VIN number, officers learned the vehicle was uninsured and displaying an incorrect tag. MCEMS arrived next, transporting Beavers to McLeod Health in Cheraw. After Beavers left the scene, the passenger of the vehicle’s name and date of birth were also run through the system, identifying him as Bernie Johnson, and that Johnson has a warrant from Chesterfield County. Johnson was transported to Wallace where officers met with deputies from the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office. Testing is being conducted on the white powdery substance taken into evidence at the scene and investigations were notified of potential drug charges. Warrants were taken out forBeavers for driving under suspension and no insurance. Case is active.
At 6:15 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Myrtle Street following a report of a stolen Galaxy 16 with no case, valued at $800. At the scene, officers spoke with the victim who said her cell phone had been stolen several days prior to her reporting it and she now wanted help from BPD officers to recover it. She claimed the phone was stolen during her stay at the Marlboro Inn on March 29. The victim said her phone was last seen resting atop a white van outside the inn. According to the victim, she tracked her phone’s location to an apartment on Oakwood Street, but when she asked for her phone, she was told by the apartment residents they did not have her phone. Following the confrontation, her phone’s location moved to a residence on Myrtle Street, and it was at this time she called the report into dispatch to recover her phone. After officers visited the residence where the stolen phone might be located and knocked on the door of the residence, no one responded. Case is active.
At 5:33 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Cook Street in following a report of a runaway juvenile. While enroute to the home, dispatch alerted officers the juvenile was located by the initial caller on Newton Street. At the scene, the caller identified herself as the foster mother of the child, saying the minor was placed in her care by DSS. She told officers the juvenile had requested for their DSS case worker to be notified but the foster mother said her cell phone was nearly dead and needed to charge for a few minutes and so the child would have to wait. The juvenile then stated they wanted to walk to the home of the foster mother’s mother to place the call to DSS but was told no by the foster mother because she said her mother was not home right now. The foster mother and the juvenile then went to their separate corners and when the foster mother went to check on the juvenile again a few minutes later, she discovered the minor missing from the home. The foster mother said she then called 911 to report the child missing and began driving around the area searching for the juvenile, ultimately locating them on Newton Street. The juvenile confirmed the argument to officers and stated they left the home to go for a walk and blow off steam. The juvenile claimed to be returning to the residence when located by the foster mother. Case unfounded.
At 7:08 p.m., officers responded to a residence on South Parsonage Street in reference to a report of a suspicious person lurking in the area. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the homeowner who stated an unknown white female wearing jeans and an orange sweater was digging through their trash — scattering litter about the yard and also collecting some of the items. The homeowner provided officers with security footage of the incident. After speaking with the neighbors, no one could tell officers what direction the female may have gone. Following a search that did not turn up the dumpster diving female, the scene was cleared. Shortly after, dispatch received another call about the female, this time from the Loft Apartments, where she allegedly ran off with a resident’s ring camera. Also, according to dispatch, the line with the caller from the Loft was still open and dispatch could overhear several individuals arguing. At the scene, officers located a group of people who all pointed towards a female who was walking away from the apartments. After contacting the female, who was identified as Gabriell Woodham, she was handcuffed and detained following an investigation. When asked about the recent reports of her trash digging and camera thievery, Woodham stated she had been up all night and was hungry. She said she did not want to take the ring camera and requested to speak with the owner. Woodham was placed in the back of a patrol car while officers spoke with the victims and reviewed security footage of Woodham stealing the camera from the residence. The victim stated the female knocked on her door and while she was reviewing her security footage to determine who was at her door, she claimed to observe Woodham stealing her ring camera. The victim stated she confronted the female at that time. She said Woodham denied stealing the camera at first, but then suddenly threw it away from her, causing an estimated $100 in damage. All relevant information was taken, and ring camera footage was entered into evidence. Woodham was then placed under arrest and transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center without further incident. She was charged with petty larceny and malicious damage to property. Case closed by arrest.
