At 10:38 a.m., the BPD responded to a business located on US 15-401 Bypass East following a report of the presence of a male shoplifter inside. When officers arrived, the female caller informed law enforcement the offender was inside of the store when he put a beer, valued at $11, into his pocket and then walked out without paying for it. The female then said she did not see which direction the male subject left in; however, she noticed he was on foot and dressed in all black, wearing a baseball cap. After watching security footage provided by the store from the incident, officers were unable to make an identification of the suspect. A search of the area also failed to turn up an individual matching the description. Additional footage from this incident is still to be obtained. Case is active.

At 4:09 p.m., a female victim walked into the BPD and reported that she is receiving threats through Facebook messenger from an account she believes is fraudulent. The female said she suddenly received a random message from the account when she began trying to figure out the identity of her mysterious correspondent. The tone of the conversation turned threatening when the victim claims the unknown account stated they were going “to kill her and her baby.” The female then admitted to contacting other females she does not particularly get along with in an attempt to unmask the owner of the account. Officers were provided with a text thread of the conversation between the female victim and the unknown account. Officers reported seeing an antagonistic text from the account on Thursday, February 5, at 2:30 p.m. sent to the female victim. Subsequent back and forth between the two occurred before the unknown account stated, “You come to McColl you gone die,” and “That ugly a** baby.” As the victim was already in McColl, she became increasingly alarmed by the turn in conversation and stepped up her attempts to discover the identity of the person threatening her and her baby. The female victim said it was at this time she blocked the account and has had no further contact with the aggressive individual. BPD officers report advising the female victim to continue having no further contact with the account or any of the other females she believed could be associated with the incident. The victim was also advised not to seek out the identity of the suspect as it could bring more harm than good to her. Case is active.

At 5:28 p.m., officers with BPD responded to a business located at US15-401 Bypass East following a report of the presence of a known female shoplifter inside the store. When officers arrived on scene, they approached the female and asked to speak with her. She responded, “Hold on,” before turning and heading down another aisle. Officers continued to follow the female, advising store management no longer welcomed her inside of the store. As officers watched, the woman pulled a bottle of olive oil, valued at $7, from inside of her purse and threw it inside of her shopping cart. At that point, officers advised the woman she needed to come with law enforcement to the store office where the female was then IDed as Jamie David. The female had two minor children with her and officers allowed her to make a phone call so the children could be given a ride home and the female’s vehicle could be moved. Served a trespass order at the store, David was then charged with shoplifting. Officer Callahan sat with David’s children until their ride arrived. Case closed by arrest.
