Bennettsville crime report for May 9- 10

At 1:56 p.m., officers responded to an area in the location of Oakwood Street in reference to a Spectrum Power Box offline, called in by a Spectrum worker reporting the box was shot. Crews had already been working on the damaged box and fiber cable for some time when law enforcement arrived on scene. Damages are estimated at $1,753 and were photographed. Bullet fragments were collected for evidence. Case is active.

May 10

At 1:09 p.m., officers responded to a business on US-15 Bypass regarding an altercation going down between two females. At the scene, officers learned the fracas occurred as one of the women was leaving the business and the other was arriving. Following a brief conversation, the two women, who have had a history of disputing with each other in the past, commenced to throwing items at each other and into each other’s buggies. It was determined one of the females involved suffered a slight abrasion to her toe when she took her shoes off and used them as missiles during the heated exchange, however, she was treated by EMS at the scene and refused any further medical care. No other injuries were reported as a result of the melee. According to the incident report, both ladies were placed under arrest for Public Disorderly Conduct.

At 12:47 a.m., officers were approached by a gentleman while at a business located on Highway 38 South. The male said he had been riding with other individuals who left him stranded on the side of the road. He told officers he was intoxicated and in need of a safe ride home. When officers tried to ascertain an address for the man’s home, he was unable to give them an accurate address. Once in the back of the officer’s patrol car, the man became loud and belligerent with officers. Despite several warnings to calm down in order to beat a public drunkenness charge, the gentleman failed to do so and instead requested to be taken to jail. Always happy to oblige, officers placed Mr. Terry Williams under arrest and escorted him to the Marlboro County Jail, as requested. Case closed by arrest.

At 9:02 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Jennings Street in reference to a reported domestic dispute involving a minor with injury. At the scene, the matriarch of the family met officers in the front yard, stating that an intoxicated male subject injured their child. The woman showed officers where the child had received an injury on the back. The male claimed he was playfighting with the child when the scratch accidentally occurred. He added that he had no intention of hurting the child, they routinely play wrestle, and he felt “terrible” the youth was injured. The mother said she did not wish to press charges against the male for the incident. Officers advised the male to not play with the child when consuming alcohol. Case closed by means other than arrest.
