BENNETTSVILLE — This past week, Bennettsville took center stage at a powerful Economic Development Press Conference, where local and state leaders announced game-changing investments that promise to transform Marlboro County’s future.
Headlining the event was Birdseye Renewable Energy and Ferroglobe.
Birdseye Renewable Energy, a Dominion Energy subsidiary, is investing $265 million across three solar projects — each designed to produce over 80 megawatts of clean energy.
Ferroglobe, a global leader in silicon metal production, unveiled a $20 million facility that will process quartz into high-grade silicon used in electronics and green tech. The site is expected to create at least 20 new jobs, with potential for more.
Economic Development Director Tonny McNeil celebrated the news as a turning point for the region, crediting years of hard work and collaboration among county officials, the S.C. Department of Commerce, and the Coordinating Council for Economic Development.
“This is more than an investment in infrastructure,” McNeil said. “It’s an investment in people, pride and possibility.”
These initiatives not only bring economic growth — they position Marlboro County as a rising player in renewable energy and tech-forward manufacturing. For local families, entrepreneurs and community-focused organizations like OTF Fitness Center, the momentum signals new opportunities to collaborate, expand outreach and grow alongside a flourishing Bennettsville.
Stay tuned, Marlboro. The future looks bright — and it’s being built right here at home.
