MARLBORO COUNTY — MCHS Varsity and JV Cheerleaders attended a one day Stomp & Shake Camp held at Mullins High School this past Friday.
The two teams enjoyed a fun-filled day of team bonding, skill drills, cheer technique exercises and even a dance off. This year’s camp theme was Pink Rodeo and the MCHS cheer teams showed up and showed out in pink accessories including bows, cowgirl hats, bandannas and even their cowgirl boots!
With a combined (Varsity and JV) total of 31 girls attending the camp, MCHS won the award for Most Participants!
Coach Dori Sanders said, “We thought it would be great to attend the camp this year as it fits our style of cheer. Most people don’t see cheerleading as a sport and that’s quite the opposite. Our girls spend hours practicing and conditioning to work on their craft. Cheerleading is more than yelling on the sideline at a football game or in the stands at a basketball game. For most of our girls it’s truly what they love to do so they work very hard to make sure they’re the best at it. They genuinely pour their all into it and it makes us very proud. Cheerleading is a sisterhood and these girls form lifelong bonds as a result of it. Not just with members of their own teams but from teams we compete against as well. We want the girls to have the same experiences we did when we cheered in high school because we’re still very much connected to the girls we cheered with. We want this to be a positive and uplifting space for the girls to showcase their talents but most importantly to have fun. Both myself and Daishanna were high school cheerleaders at MCHS so the pride we feel in being able to come back home and coach a sport we both love at our alma mater is a full-circle moment.”
Sanders is a 2004 graduate of MCHS and going into her 9th season coaching cheer while Coach Daishanna Pearson is a 2016 graduate of MCHS and going into her 4th season coaching cheer.
