BENNETTSVILLE—The First Presbyterian Church in Bennettsville is hosting its 22nd Annual John B. and Mildren H. Rogers Lecture Series. This year’s series will be led by Rev. Dr. Carl Trueman, who is a professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Grove City College.
Established in 2001, the annual lecture series is dedicated to the memories of John B. and Mildred H. Rogers. Every year features a different theologian, pastor, or scholar that engages both church members and the broader community.
Dr. Carl Trueman is a British-born scholar with degrees from Cambridge (M.A.) and Aberdeen (Ph.D.) and has taught at several universities and currently teaches at Grove City College. An established author, editor, and commentator, Trueman is affiliated with publications like First Things, Touchstone, and World Magazine.
His latest book (2026) is The Desecration of Man: How the Rejection of God Degrades Our Humanity and dovetails with the theme of this year’s lecture series: “What Are Human Beings? The Desecration and Consecration of Man.”
Based on Trueman’s latest book, the lecture series explores: the loss of human dignity in modern culture due to rejecting the idea that humans are made in God’s image, social and moral consequences (e.g., issues related to sexuality, identity, and ethics), a call for spiritual renewal (“consecration”) through returning to a Christian understanding of humanity. The 22nd Annual John B. and Mildren H. Rogers Lecture Series will run May 17-18. Childcare will be provided for evening lecture sessions.
