BENNETTSVILLE — Saturday morning, representatives from CareSouth Carolina welcomed Marlboro County residents to the Bennettsville Community Center for two hours of fellowship, education, and free food.
Health screenings, wellness resources, family support services and educational materials were all offered at no cost during the health fair.
“At CareSouth Carolina, we believe that good health starts with education and access. Our Community Health Fair is a way for us to give back to the people we serve, offering essential screenings, resources, and support — all in a welcoming and engaging setting,” shares CareSouth Carolina Chief of Community Health Joe Bittle.
Speaking at the event, South Carolina State Representative Jason Luck said he sees his fight this election season as being one against constituent apathy.
“It seems a lot of people are ready to give up, but you have got to get out there and do what you can with what you have. Look around,” he implored. “You have a lot of resources available to you right here with this crowd — I need healthy constituents,” joked Luck.
Advising how to stay healthy from a crime standpoint, Bennettsville Police Chief Sammy Crosland suggested coming by the police department to further educate oneself about staying safe.
“The saddest thing I see y’all do is pull a gun on somebody and they take it and turn it on you,” said Crosland. “We want to be a proactive police department, but we need you to help us protect y’all too.”
Crosland also shared his praise for the efforts of the CareSouth Carolina team.
“These types are events are invaluable to the members of our community, not just because of the health and wellness resources it provides, but also because of the fellowship opportunity. A healthy community thrives together,” he said.
Clio Mayor Adam Pate attended the event and was also full of praise for the healthcare conglomerate.
“This event is a great resource for our community and opportunity for residents to take advantage of educating themselves about the options available to them to stay healthy,” said Mayor Pate, adding “I cannot say enough what a blessing CareSouth is in our community and how thankful Marlboro County is as a whole for all that they do.”
