BENNETTSVILLE—The Marlboro County High School football season came to an abrupt end following sanctions from the South Carolina High School League. The school forfeited the final two games of the season, including what would’ve been senior night versus Waccamaw High School at home.

Monday night, the Bulldog faithful showed up to pack to the pound for senior night. MCHS principal addressed the crowd and took “full responsibility” for the mistakes made about player eligibility.

“It is unfortunate that due to some errors I made while serving as both principal and as the director interpreting the rules governed by the South Carolina High School League regarding transfer students, our season ended abruptly,” Johnson said. “I take full responsibility for the error and sincerely apologize to everyone that’s been affected, especially our student-athletes, the fans that have been impacted, and our entire community. There’s nothing more important to me than helping them achieve their goals and dreams, and I’m deeply saddened by what has transpired over the last few weeks.”

The crowd in the stands applauded Johnson’s words.
