Late Saturday evening, early Sunday morning, the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office received a call from the Department of Corrections about a drone flying near Evans Correctional Institution. Upon arrival, deputies noticed a suspect running into the wooded area near the prison grounds. Deputies quickly established a perimeter. Chief Deputy Covington contacted Chesterfield County’s dog tracking team to assist. After about four hours, deputies and the tracking team mad contact with the suspect. Arnez Thompson was detained and arrested by the MCSO while investigators Dew and Hatcher processed the scene. Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Chesterfield County Tracking Team, Bennettsville Police Department, Clio Police Department, SCDNR, and the SC Dept of Corrections for their assistance.

  • On October 13, The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a stabbing in the McColl area of Marlboro County. Upon arrival, a male subject had been transported to Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, N.C. Contact was made with a female suspect later identified as Samantha Bullard. MCSO investigators arrested and charged Bullard with Assault and Battery of A High and Aggravated Nature.
  • On October 13, the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office responded to a possible shootout that started on Breeden Street and ended in the county after one of the involved vehicles wrecked. After further investigation, both Shooters were arrested and taken into custody. Dion David was charged with 2 counts of Attempted Murder, Discharging a Firearm Into A Vehicle, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, and Possession of Crack Cocaine. Leroy Williams was charged with 3 counts of Attempted Murder, Discharging a Firearm Into A Vehicle, and Possession of A Weapon During A Violent Crime
  • On October 4, The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office received a tip on a possible stolen enclosed trailer in the McColl area.

    Investigator Joshua Dew and the McColl Police Dept recovered a trailer stolen from Richmond County, N.C. The trailer was valued at around $3,500 and was turned over to Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the investigation continues.
