BENNETTSVILLE— Early voting started on October 21 in South Carolina and the turnout in Marlboro County has been steady. As of 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, 1,434 voters cast ballots at the Marlboro County Courthouse.
According to SCVotes.gov, there are 15,396 registered voters in the county.
8,841 are women.
6,550 are men.
The largest group of voters, 5,464, are between the age of 45-64 and the smallest group of registered voters are under 25, with 1,094.
In this summer’s primary election, the Pee Dee region had low turnout. Only 20% of Marlboro County voters participated in the election.
But SCVotes.gov says the first day of early voting broke records statewide.
More than 125,000 voters turned out to cast their ballot on the first day of early voting, topping the previous one-day record for early voting set in the 2022 General Election.
New record (October 21, 2024): Approximately 125,900
Old record (November 4, 2022): Approximately 70,100
“We are thrilled to see voters embracing the convenience of early voting, and we are anticipating a significant turnout for this election,” said Howie Knapp, Executive Director of the State Election Commission (SEC).
Absentee ballots may be requested in person until Friday. Requests for mail-in ballots must be received by Friday.
Election Day is Nov. 5 and early voting ends on Nov. 2. A photo ID is required to vote in the election.
