At Tuesday’s Marlboro County Council meeting, Sheriff Larry McNeil presented medals to six law enforcement officers for their heroic efforts. On December 29, a group of law enforcement officers from the city of Bennettsville and the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office were involved in a chase. Two juveniles were traveling at a high rate of speed to avoid the officers. During the chase, the young people in the car lost control of the vehicle and it crashed. The vehicle burst into flames and the six officers —four Marlboro County Sheriff’s deputies and two Bennettsville Police officers—pulled the juveniles from the fire. Bennettsville Police officers Scott Bowen, Jake King, and Jeffery Sessoms and MCSO deputies Cotton Heffner, Brianna Allen, and Brian Jinwright were celebrated at the meeting.
