BENNETTSVILLE—The City of Bennettsville is gearing up to enliven its downtown with the launch of the “Music on Main” series, hosted by the Main Street Bennettsville program. This exciting initiative aims to bring live music, delicious food, and local shopping together, creating a vibrant and culturally enriching experience for residents and visitors alike.

Kicking off on May 10 from 5:30-8:30 pm, the inaugural event will feature hometown musician Avante’ Covington. Covington, a Senior Music Education major at South Carolina State University is a drum major for the Marching 101 Bulldog Band. This comes as no surprise to those who have watched him grow musically within our community playing the tuba for the Marlboro School of Discovery, or the alto saxophone while becoming the youngest drum major at Marlboro County High School. The evening’s melody will transform Bennettsville’s downtown courtyard into a dynamic performance space, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of music and community gathering.

The “Music on Main” series is an expansion of the City’s popular Food Truck Fridays, now enhanced with live local music to create a truly immersive experience. With many towns hosting first Friday events, Main Street Bennettsville aims to draw residents and visitors to downtown Bennettsville, offering attendees an opportunity to indulge in culinary delights from food trucks and explore offerings from local retailers, further contributing to the economic vitality of downtown Bennettsville.

“We were happy to receive a Horizon Opportunity Grant from the South Carolina Arts Commission to help support the ‘Music on Main’ series. We believe that ‘Music on Main’ will not only entertain but also inspire our community, encouraging residents to explore our downtown and support local businesses,” said Brittany Jones, Business Development and Community Engagement Manager. The series aligns with the City’s broader goals of creative placemaking, downtown activation, and community engagement in an overall effort to transform downtown Bennettsville into a vibrant hub of cultural activity.

“Music on Main” promises to be a highlight of the spring season, offering a memorable experience for all who attend. Feel free to bring a chair and stay to enjoy a night on the town.
