BENNETTSVILLE—A love for lip gloss became a business for Wallace Elementary/Middle School student RaNaviah McNeil.
“I love lip gloss, so I started making it,” she said outside of her booth at the Spring Downtown Market Day. “And I was like, I like making this. So, I started selling it.”
RaNaviah was 12 years old when she started her business, following in the footsteps of her father, who is an entrepreneur.
“He inspired me to be an entrepreneur as well,” she said.
RaNaviah said when she started selling her lip glosses they were $4, now she sells them for $5.
And she has added more items to Navi’s Creations. She designs bracelets, lanyards and wristlets.
“I started out with making rubber band bracelets and I wasn’t selling them,” RaNaviah said. “I was like this is fun and I can start doing this more. That’s how I started selling my beaded bracelets and then I went into the lanyards and all the other stuff.”
RaNaviah is marketing her shop through Instagram, @navi.s_creations, and she’s developing a website for the company as well.
According to Linedin.com, “Creativity is a key entrepreneurial trait. It can help strengthen emotional intelligence, while also helping us become more flexible and better problem solvers. Another perk, specifically for your kids, is that creativity is essential for subjects like science, math, and writing.”
RaNaviah said she’s excited to see people get excited about the items she makes and sells. “All of the products that I make, I like them and I would buy them. It’s exciting for me that people like my products as much as I do. It makes me happy.”
RaNaviah said when graduates from high school, which is far down the road because she’s an eighth grader now, she plans to expand her business and develop new items to sell.
