The Kollock Alumni Association hosted a celebration of Black History Month Saturday afternoon. Josiah Benton-Lowe was the speaker for the event. This is how he describes the importance of remembering and celebrating Black History Month.

“Black History is incredibly important as it highlights the contributions, struggles, and achievements of Black people and their contributions to the history of America and the world. It helps educate people about the impact of racism, discrimination, and oppression on Black communities, while also celebrating the resilience, creativity, and cultural heritage. Recognizing and honoring Black History helps to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in society, and ultimately fosters a more just and equitable world for everyone. Celebrating Black History highlights the strength and resilience of the Black community in the face of historical and ongoing challenges such as racism and discrimination. It shows that despite adversity, Black individuals have made significant contributions to all aspects of society and deserve recognition and respect for their accomplishments. By acknowledging and honoring Black history, we can work towards a more inclusive and equitable society for all.”
