What to know before heading to the polls
BENNETTSVILLE—Tuesday is Election Day if you live in Bennettsville, McColl, or Clio.
Before heading to the polls, there are a few things registered voters need to know.
First, there are no elections in Blenheim, Wallace, or Tatum. The election is just a municipal one, said Marlboro County Voter Registration and Elections director Christina Thompson.
“They need to go on SCvotes.gov or give us a call and find out where their polling place is,” she said. “And double check to make sure they are registered to vote.”
Thompson said there was redistricting in the city of Bennettsville and people may see a change in their district from the last election for some streets.
Normally, local elections don’t receive a huge turnout, but Thompson is hoping for a great turnout for this election.
“I’m hoping for a good turnout, I would like a great turnout. But based on past statistics, normal local races don’t get a big turnout here. I’m pleased with the turnout thus far of the early voting. The community seems to like it. The first week, they were coming in really good,” she said.
Thompson said 47 was the lowest number of voters they saw during the early voting period, which ends Friday. This the third time that early voting has been an option in South Carolina. Here in Marlboro County, early voting was used the 2022 primary races and in the November election.
6, 184 people in Bennettsville, Clio, and McColl are eligible to vote on Tuesday.
“The community doesn’t realize that this is just a municipal election. We’ve had people come here from Wallace and Blenheim and different places from around the county because they’ve seen voting signs around the county. This is just city races. It is just Bennettsville, McColl, and Clio municipal,” Thompson said.
To vote in the election, voters have to be registered for at least 30 days before the election to cast a ballot. “That’s why it’s good for them to know where their polling place is, know what their district is, and if they can vote in that municipality or not.”
