BENNETTSVILLE—If you ask the Marian Wright Edelman Library director Bobbie Grooms what she loves about Marlboro County, she’s going to say just about everything.

“I’m a Marlboro County girl,” she said. “I was born in McColl and lived the majority of my life out in the country. I think the sense of community is one of the most important things about being from this county.”

Grooms recalls how the community came together following the tornado that struck the area and 1984 and helped her parents rebuild their home that had been destroyed.

Maybe that’s why it’s not surprising to see Grooms driving the Bookmobile, donating her time to civic organizations, and taking snacks for people and animals to the Marlboro County Animal Shelter.

Grooms is a champion of literacy in Marlboro County and works to make the MWE Library a place where everyone can find exactly what’s needed.

Congratulations to Bobbie Grooms for being the October Marlboro County Citizen of the Month.
