BENNETTSVILLE — Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office investigators assisted the Federal Correctional Institute with the arrest of a correctional officer Thursday after law enforcement seized over $100,000 worth of contraband and narcotics from him, MCSO officials said.
According to Chief Deputy Larry Turner, Joseph Michael Templeton worked as an officer at the Federal Correctional Institute (FCI) in Bennettsville up until his December 11 arrest.
“The estimated value of the seized contraband and narcotics is based on their projected value within the institution,” Turner explained, adding that Templeton was cooperative when taken into custody.
Following being formally charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Contraband, Templeton was next transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center.
A judge set his bond at $7,000 and MCSO Investigator Hatcher is overseeing this case.
