BENNETTSVILLE — The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday, November 26, 2025, that Hendrick Simmons was arrested for the murder of Larry “Moe” Malachi Tuesday.

During the investigation, which is being spearheaded by Investigator J. Hatcher, deputies discovered Simmons and the victim engaged in a verbal dispute at a home on Gordon Street Tuesday night that escalated into physical violence. Allegedly, Simmons struck Malachi with an object lethal enough to result in his death.

MCSO Chief Deputy Larry Turner said the scene was secured with the help of the Bennettsville Police Department and deputies requested assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s [SLED] crime scene unit.

According to Turner, Simmons was apprehended without incident and is currently incarcerated at the Marlboro County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing before a circuit court judge at a later date.
