BENNETTSVILLE — The Marlboro County High School female wrestling team delivered a statement performance Monday night, securing decisive victories over both Lake City and West Florence in a thrilling tri-match that showcased the Bulldogs’ growing strength on the mat.
In the opening momentum, Marlboro County set the tone early with quick pins, establishing confidence and energy that carried throughout the evening. The Bulldogs’ middleweight wrestlers proved pivotal, grinding out hard-fought wins against Lake City’s toughest competitors. Their ability to control the pace and counter aggressive attacks swung momentum firmly in Marlboro’s favor sealing their victory over Lake City with 54 team points to their 6 by dominant takedowns and leaving little doubt about the Bulldogs’ depth. Every athlete contributed, whether through points earned in victory or resilience in close matches. The collective effort underscored Marlboro County’s balanced roster and commitment to teamwork.
A standout performance came from Marlboro’s lightweight division, Gabriella Murillo (106) where a quick pin electrified the crowd and set the tone for the Bulldogs’ sweep.
In the 110 & 120-pound class, Marlboro’s wrestlers Graycee & Haylee Duncan (sisters) battled through a tense match, ultimately securing a decisive win that broke Lake City’s momentum.
But closing the evening was Mary Williams (190) and Ke’Asia Brown (235). Marlboro’s heavy hitters are aggressively competitive, delivering a commanding victory over West Florence, clinching the Bulldogs’ second team triumph of the night with 46 team points to their 18.
Marlboro County’s coaching staff praised the team’s discipline and preparation, noting that the victories were not just about individual talent but about the collective drive to represent their school and community with pride.
With back-to-back wins against respected programs, Marlboro County’s female wrestlers have positioned themselves as a rising force in the region.
The Bulldogs now turn their focus to upcoming matches against Waccama, Georgetown and Loris, where they aim to continue building momentum and inspire the next generation of athletes in Marlboro.
