CHERAW — After losing to Cheraw the last time they met, Marlboro County decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Bulldogs came out on top against the Braves by a score of 27-20 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Offensively, Marlboro County found their leader in sophomore QB Tre Blakeney, who rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns. Blakeney went 4 for 9 with an average of 18.6 yards a pass. In rushing, Senior Troy Hailey had 12 carries for 72 yards, Sophomore Khrishawn Smith had 7 carries for 44 yards and Mikyi Littles had 5 for 54. Khamari Eaddy, a Junior, snuck one past the goal line as well for 6.

On the other side of the ball, Marlboro County’s run defense was locked in: Cheraw could only muster -3.2 yards per carry. And the Bulldog defense got into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jaden Ashe, Kaiden Walton, and Jamorie Williams, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Cheraw’s side was Myjae McCoy, who made 12 total tackles and defended one pass.

Marlboro County’s record now sits at 2-0. As for Cheraw, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marlboro County will welcome Gray Collegiate Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cheraw, they will be playing at home against Conway at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
