S. Everett Street fire considered suspicious

The fire that destroyed a home on South Everett Street Sunday night is under investigation by the Bennettsville Fire Department and Bennettsville Police Department, officials said today.
The fire started around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, August 17, at 124 South Everett Street, which is at the corner of South Everett and Newton Streets.
It was vacant at the time, and there was no power, leading officials to consider it suspicious in nature.
A total of 27 firefighters battled the blaze for several hours. The McColl Fire Department sent a truck and personnel to assist. Damage to the house was estimated at $40,000, and it is considered a total loss.
