A Rockingham man involved in a deadly Marlboro County nightclub shooting has been arrested.
Tajuwon Deondre Short, 18, was taken into custody Monday afternoon after turning himself into Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon after an investigation showed he was responsible for a shooting that took place at the State Line Bar & Grill on May 4.
According to Lt. Trevor Murphy, Short was arrested and charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and unlawful carrying of a pistol.
Murphy said Short was arraigned on those charges and will later receive a bond hearing from a circuit court judge.
The Marlboro County Sheriff's Office responded to the State Line Bar & Grill during the early morning hours of May 4 after receiving information that a North Carolina hospital was rendering aid to a victim that was shot at the nightclub.
The victim of that shooting was pronounced dead and was identified by North Carolina Medical Examiner Leo Goodwin as being Kinnie Marquan Utley, 22, of Rockingham.
Lemon advised that he has begun the legal steps necessary to close down the State Line Bar & Grill due to incidents that have occurred there as well as violations committed by the operators.
Murphy said they would like to thank SLED and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office for their assistance with the investigation.
"Our continued thoughts and prayers will be lifted for the family and friends of Mr. Utley and Mr. Short as well as the Rockingham community," Murphy said.
