-The Textile Workers Union announced the filing of a $71-million federal court suit for damages stemming from the alleged “bugging” of its organizers Wallace motel room by the J.P. Stevens Co.

-Despite opposition from the public, Bennettsville City Council voted 4-1 to support continued efforts of the South Carolina Highway Department to construct a western connector from Highway 9 to the 15-401 Bypass.

-Cheryl D. Boan of Charleston, a graduate of Lower Marlboro High, completed a master’s program at the Citadel.

-Edward Winson Miller III and David DuPre Fowler Jr. of Boy Scout Troop 625 received the God and Country Awards at First United Methodist Church.

-Beauticians and hair stylists came from a 60-mile radius of Bennettsville to attend a one-day beauty show. Stylists saw demonstrations and heard lectures from nationally known stylist Bill Adamson of Atlanta.

-Youth from the Bennettsville Childcare Center attended a daylong picnic at Woodland Gardens.

-Airman Thomas G. Airman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin C. Adams of Bennettsville had been assigned to Sheppard AFB, Texas, after completing Air Force basic training. Adams was a 1970 graduate of Bennettsville High School.

-The first annual Wallace High School Football Jamboree was scheduled at Carroll Field with eight Class A teams. The four-county teams were Blenheim, Clio, McColl, and Wallace.

-Gary Gredlein and Charles Turner were selected to head the Bennettsville High School football program for 1973-74 as co-directors.

-Jean Stakeman of Bennettsville won first prize in an international needlepoint exhibit in Brevard.

-The movie, “The Man Called Noon”, played at the Showplace of Bennettsville.

-J.C. Lipham, District Governor 777, officially visited the Bennettsville Rotary Club.

-Marlboro County Public Schools would have 77 school buses operating and more on reserve when school started. During the last school year, local buses traveled 700,000 miles.

-The South Carolina Highway Saturation Patrol, commonly called the Wolfpack, was in Marlboro County to crack down on speeders and drunk drivers.

-Southern Bell presented a 20-year pin to Mrs. Christine Therrell, a service representative.

-The Firestone softball team won the city softball league championship for the second year.
