– Clio High will graduate 34 seniors this school year. Commencement will be held on June 2nd at Clio Elementary Auditorium at 8:00 p.m. Renee Windham is valedictorian, Edward McNeil is salutatorian, and Hattie Woods is 3rd honor graduate.

– The office of tax collector for Marlboro County will be abolished when a bill currently before the General Assembly becomes law. Sen. Jack Lindsay has introduced a bill, which was given second reading Tuesday, to abolish the office of tax collector and devolve these duties upon the county treasurer. Under the bill, all fees collected by the treasurer in handling those duties would go into the general fund. Mrs. Nell C. Breeden, present county tax collector, is retiring from her post on June 30th.

– Bill Kinney, Jr. of the Marlboro Herald-Advocate spent last weekend in Athens, Ga., with a team of South Carolina newspaper officials, judging the 1972 Georgia Better Newspaper Contests. The judging was held at the Center for Continuing Education at the University of Georgia and Kinney, who is currently president of the S.C. Press Assn., returned home on Sunday.

– Mr. and Mrs. Marion Meade Evans announce the birth of a daughter, Linda Cheryl, on Wednesday, March 24th in Marlboro General Hospital. Mrs. Evans is the former Linda Gardner. They have one son, Meade.

– Lake Wallace will open for swimming on Saturday, June 3. The hours will be from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday through Saturday and 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday. The regular lifeguards for this summer will be Dalton Walker, Hal Weill, and Janis Hart. Those that will work as alternates and on weekends will consist of Tommy Owens, Steve Quick, and Jane Powers. Lake Wallace is open year round for boating and fishing.

– Navy Petty Officer First Class Bobby A. Fowler, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Fowler, and husband of Mrs. Joyce E. Fowler, all of 401 E. Gibson Ave., McColl, has reported to Training Squadron 19 at the Naval Air Station, Meridian, Miss. He will be assigned to duties as an Aviation Structural Mechanic. He joined the Navy in July of 1960.

– Wallace High School has 67 seniors in its graduating class this school term. Six of these are honor students: Cassandra Bass, Jackie Scott, Beverly Privette, Evander Dean Quick, Edna Cox, and Charles Cox. Jackie Scott is valedictorian and Cassandra Bass is salutatorian.
