The Bennettsville Police Department filed the following reports:

Nov. 1

Police were conducting a license checkpoint on Livingston and Third Avenues at 3:08 p.m. when they attempted to stop a tan GMC Yukon. The driver disregarded the officer’s command to stop. Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop. They were able to keep the vehicle there, but the driver Demond Dominque Samuel, 31, of Bennettsville, attempted to flee. Samuel stopped the vehicle on Shannon Street and fled on foot with the passenger. Both fled toward Cheraw Street. Police apprehended the passenger. They were unable to find Samuel but knew where he lived. While searching the vehicle, police discovered a peanut butter bag containing a green leafy substance (65.3 grams) believed to be marijuana in the center console of the vehicle, a purple and light blue iPhone on the driver’s side floorboard. The passenger was released without charges. A warrant was issued for Samuel for failure to stop for blue lights and possession with intent to distribute.

Police were sitting stationary on Marshall Street at 10:30 a.m., facing southbound, monitoring traffic for speeding violations. A white Honda with front end damage turned onto Marshal Street and backed into a residence’s driveway. Police noted it matched the description of a vehicle concerning a shooting incident on Oct. 29. Police talked with the driver, Allen Michael Adams, 35, of Bennettsville. Adams was asked several times if there were weapons in the vehicle. His license had been suspended due to failure to pay traffic tickets. Later, police found a black handgun and a blue and black backpack with the word “cookies” displayed in several places. The backpack contained an amount of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, two clear plastic bags containing an amount of white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine, several clear plastic bags, and $126 in cash. Police found gold 9.9 mm bullets, an amount of green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, and a black Digitz brand pocket scale. The vehicle did not have insurance. Adams had an amount of white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in the right front pant pocket. Adams was arrested for driving under suspension, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, unlawful carrying of a pistol, possession with intent to distribute marijuana within the proximity of a playground, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine within the proximity of a playground, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony offense.

Nov. 3

Police responded to Bennettsville Motel at 10:14 a.m. about unlawful entry into a room. The complainant said he caught a male and female inside a room that neither had paid for at the motel. The complainant took a photo of the two inside the room. Police were able to identify the two individuals. The complainant said both were last seen on foot walking eastbound on 15-401 Bypass. Police searched for the individuals. Arrest warrants would be obtained for both for defrauding the hotel.

Oct. 19

Deputies received a call about a domestic incident at 5:21 p.m. on Barfield Road in McColl. Dispatch said the complainant said her child’s father was threatening to hit their child. Dispatch could hear a very active argument on the line. The subject, Maurice T. Jackson, 33, took the phone and disconnected the line. Once on the scene, the complainant said Jackson was upset because the child was crying, and Jackson “lost it.” The complainant said she called 911, and during the call, Jackson took the phone to restrict her ability to call 911. Jackson was arrested for domestic violence third-degree.

Oct. 20

Deputies responded to McQueen Road in the Bennettsville area of the county at 10:55 a.m. for reports of someone breaking into a motor vehicle. The complainant had looked out the window and saw all the doors opened on her vehicle. She saw Amber Cheyanne Grooms walking with a Mickey Mouse backpack. The complainant watched Grooms walk across the street and sit on the porch of a residence. The only thing taken from the vehicle was the Mickey Mouse backpack. Grooms was arrested for breaking into a motor vehicle and petit larceny.

Oct. 21

Deputies responded to James Street in the Bennettsville area of the county at 5 p.m. about domestic problems. On scene, deputies found Eulonda Conecsious Quick, 45, standing outside the residence. Quick and the complainant Larry McRae, 51, were fighting. Quick said McRae punched her in the left side of her face, and she hit him several times as well. Quick and McRae were arrested for domestic violence third degree.

Deputies responded to Hickory Grove Road in the Bennettsville area of the county at 5:09 about an intoxicated pedestrian. Christopher Eugene Jones, 46, was found on the side of the highway grossly intoxicated. Jones was asked several times if he had anywhere to go. He said he did not. He was arrested for pedestrian under the influence for his safety and the safety of the public.

Oct. 23

Deputies were dispatched to Club Amnesia in McColl at 2 a.m. about a fight in progress. The complainant said he tried getting the parties to leave the property. Deputies stood by while the parties left the scene. While walking back to their vehicles, another fight started inside the club and spilled into the parking lot. Deputies tried to keep Franchesca Maria Norton, 30, from going toward a vehicle. Norton charged the vehicle and assaulted someone inside the vehicle. After talking with witnesses, Nacome Oxendine, 30, had started the fight. He said he went into the club to get his phone, and some females began hitting him. Oxendine said he swung back and went to his vehicle. He was arrested for assault and battery third-degree. While in handcuffs, deputies smelled a strong odor of marijuana from Oxendine. He had a clear plastic bag with a green leafy substance inside his pocket. He was charged with simple possession of marijuana. Norton and Taylor Marie Edwards, 23, were charged with assault and battery third-degree.

Deputies were enroute to Marlboro County Detention Center with a suspect at 2:45 a.m. when a Ford Taurus, driven by Larry Fitzgerald Graham, 45, pulled out of Club Waterhole and almost wrecked the deputy’s vehicle. Deputies followed Graham down the road with the car crossing left to the center several times and almost went into a ditch. A traffic stop was initiated on Adamsville Road. Graham said he had been drinking and was leaving the club to head home. He did not have a driver’s license to present to law enforcement. He was arrested for reckless driving.

Deputies were behind a grey Chevy S10 on Cheraw Street at 4:45 p.m. when the driver swerved across the center line of travel, swerved back into the outside lane, and turned onto Main Street without using a turn signal. Deputies ran the license plate, which came back to a Dodge Charger and was expired. A traffic stop was initiated on Chapel Street. The driver, Shannon Levonne Williams, 46, ran a stop sign onto Boundary Street and then pulled into a residence. Williams had a suspended license due to failure to pay for traffic tickets. She said she knew about the suspended license but hadn’t paid the ticket even though she had the money. She said the truck belonged to a friend who lived in Hamlet. The VIN number on it came back unregistered and with no insurance. Williams was arrested and charged with driving under suspension.
