BENNETTSVILLE—On Saturday, Brew & Bake hosted a fundraiser for the Humane Society of Marlboro County. The inaugural Bark-A-Thon started at 8 a.m. and raised over $2,000.

Lora Biron, owner of Brew & Bake wanted to create an event that would support the humane society and came up with the idea.

Ten percent of all sales at the bakery were donated to the Humane Society of Marlboro County. And there were adoptable dogs on site for families to take home. Dave, the humane society’s oldest dog, was adopted by Bertha Hodge at the Bark-A-Thon.

Several booths were set up to draw attention, like the free pup-cup stand, a merchandise table run by the humane society, and a Q&A table with animal control officers. Brew & Bake provided sweet treats and coffee for the attendees to enjoy, while the outside space provided room for the dogs to roam around and socialize. Several donations were made including food, cleaning supplies, treats, etc. The total raised for the Humane Society of Marlboro County was $2,322, which will go towards medical care, food and shelter, and any other needs the shelter pets may have. The Humane Society and owners of Brew & Bake extend their gratitude to all who participated.

If you want to give to the Humane Society of Marlboro County, visit the group’s website at www.humanesocietyofmarlboro.org and click the Support Us tab.
