The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control has confirmed the state’s first three reported cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
All three cases are adults from the Lowcountry region.
These cases were identified via whole genome sequencing by the Medical University of South Carolina.
With COVID-19 cases still on the rise, a vaccination event will be from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Bennettsville Community Center.
Currently, only 36% of the county is fully vaccinated.
Vaccine providers would administer Pfizer, Moderna, & J & J (1st, 2nd dose, and booster) for ages 12 and older, including the pediatric dose for 5-11-year-olds (parent /guardian must be present). Several incentives such as $50 visa gift cards and other electronics could be available for those who get vaccinated.
There will be a drawing for a 50-inch television.
