The Trinity Behavioral Boards of Directors announced the Bennettsville facility under construction will be named the Representative Patricia Moore Henegan Recovery Center.
Executive Director Donnie Brock said the 5,000-square-foot facility, located at the corner of Highway 9 and Davids Pond Road, will house all its Marlboro County operations. The facility is expected to be completed and operational in the fall of 2024.
In a press release, Trinity officials noted the loss of its County-owned space due to mold in 2014.
Brock said Henegan acknowledged the necessity for a local facility focusing solely on the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders as is the case in every other SC county. He said last year, she secured three million state dollars to make this modern behavioral healthcare facility a reality. “This will be the only recovery center of its kind serving Marlboro County and triple current capacity and meet local demand for SUD services into the foreseeable future,” he said. “She has been our champion and had she not, the building would not be here.”
In an interview with the Herald-Advocate, Henegan the initiative will bear her name but is not just about her. “It signifies a commitment to the values we hold dear – compassion, understanding, and the unwavering belief that recovery is possible for everyone,” she said. “It is a symbol of our shared dedication to creating a world where individuals are not defined by their struggles but empowered by their ability to overcome them.”
Trinity’s professional staff provides outpatient evidenced based substance use disorder counseling to more than four hundred and fifty Marlboro County residents annually and prevention initiatives touching thousands each year.
“Every person who will benefit from this initiative represents a story of courage, determination, and hope,” Henegan said. “Together, we are breaking down barriers and shattering the stigma that has often shrouded the journey of recovery. We are lighting the way for those who may feel lost, showing them that they are not alone and that there is a community of support eager to lift them up.”
She added she wanted to express her heartfelt gratitude to each and everybody who has played a role in bringing this initiative to life. Since 2005, Trinity Behavioral Care has functioned as the Marlboro County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. The organization’s mission is to reduce the effect of substance use in the areas it serves.
Trinity has been recognized by the Substance Abuse Mental Health Administration, the Office of National Control Policy, and SC- Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services for its effective provision of care during the COVID-19 pandemic; innovative methods to provide opiate use disorder treatment/prevention in rural areas; and its rapid response to drug overdose spikes.
Trinity is a provider within the SC-DAODAS system. Trinity is nationally accredited by CARF and licensed by DHEC. The organization has functioned as the public sector provider of SUD prevention and treatment in Marion and Dillon Counties for fifty years.
Trinity will not refuse care due to its inability to pay and has access to multiple public funding streams to support its services. Trinity is also Medicaid approved provider as it is with many private insurers.
