The members of the Bennettsville-Cheraw Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. sponsored a Mother-Daughter Brunch on May 7 at Bella’s Simple Occasions in Bennettsville.

Participants were members of Delta Academy and Delta GEMS, a group that members of the chapter mentor.

The theme for this year is “The Awakening: Power, Purpose, and Progression.” The Mother-Daughter Brunch was a special event held to celebrate the special relationship between mothers and daughters.

Two previous members of Delta Academy and Delta GEMS, Alliethia Ellerbe and Kaniya Purefoy, spoke about their experiences and shared what they are presently doing.

The venue was decorated with pastel colors that included flowers, balloons, butterflies, umbrellas, and lanterns. As participants and their mothers entered the room, they were ushered in by AMI students. Participants were dressed in Sunday best attire, and pictures were taken of each participant with their mother.

Catering was provided by Family Affair, and the menu included cheese grits, shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, chicken salad on croissants, fruit tray, and drinks.

Delta Academy and Delta GEMS are national initiatives of Delta Sigma Theta Chapters with emphasis on helping young ladies to reach their highest potential in leadership and non-traditional fields.
