Recently, author Portia Y. Clare presented Man 2 Man Fatherhood with a donation of $1,000.
The donation came from a portion of the pre-sales of her latest book, “His Name is My Daddy.
On April 27, she presented Derrick Dease, executive director of Man 2 Man with the check.
“You are doing great work. I am a daddy’s girl,” she said “I applaud what it is that you all are doing to help in the relationships with fathers, children, and families.”
Man 2 Man is one of a network of six fatherhood programs reaching across the state to help reconnect fathers and their children. The SC Center for Fathers and Families helps to coordinate this statewide initiative.
“I support and applaud what it is that you are doing, said Clare, who is a third-grade teacher at Bennettsville Primary School “I know my daddy does and I know that this blesses his heart as much as it does my mom and me.”
Dease said he was appreciative of the donation.
“The family is the bedrock of society, and it is people like you who make it possible for what we do,” he said.
Clare’s book is all about her relationship with my father as she grew up.
“Everything in that book talks about how my dad used his hands to help me,” she said.
When she heard about Man 2 Man Fatherhood, she knew it was the perfect place to share in whatever contributions were made to the purchase of her book.
“This ministry is everything,” Clare said. “My dad made a difference for me. I am where I am because of the deposits that he’s placed on the inside of me. I hear his voice every day. I’m reminded of what he has taught me every day. I live based on what he has shared with me every day. And because of my relationship with my dad, I now have a relationship with our heavenly father, and he bridged that for me, my daddy is no longer on earth, but he had established something in me with God.”
She added it made perfect sense that she would help an organization that is supportive of fathers because she believes in dads.
“I had a father who believed in me, and I want to help them with whatever their mission is to bring families together, to have fathers to know who they are, to recognize their importance and
their value to their family, to their community, and the world,” Clare said.
Dease said Man 2 Man is a nonprofit that relies on donations from the community as well as the state and federal government.
“But it’s the donations from the community that makes it more memorable because this is where you get the community to buy in and people can embrace and understand that families are the bedrock of society and when fathers are healthy, the whole family is healthy,” he said.
