CLIO- More than 75 people attended the first Prayer on Main event in Clio on March 30.

Clio Mayor Adam Pate noted that nothing with any significance can be done without the Lord.

“If we want the change in Clio that we need to have, the Lord has to be the center of it all,” Pate said. “It has to be the center of your marriage, of your family, of your life, of our city, of our town. The Lord has to be the center of it all.”

He challenged everyone there to invite three or four people so they could triple the crowd. “Let’s have a big crowd to be able to pray for our town and for the Lord to bless us immensely because we are gathered here as a body as a town in order to praise his name for one,” he said.

In attendance was Ophrah Kablan, who had made it to the Hollywood Week portion of American Idol.

Kablan, who is from Laurens, lives in Clio. Mayor Pate was stunned

to hear her say, “I’m Ophrah and I’m from Clio, South Carolina” during her audition on the show.

“You don’t know this, but I probably rewound that probably six times,” he said.

“This means a lot to these people. They love their town; they love the place they live. And you put it on the map.”

Kablan said an acapella song for the event and was prayed over by Pastor Hilda Graham, pastor of New Beginning Apolistic Faith Church prayed for her American Idol journey.

Anthony Woods, Marlboro County Council member for District prayed for the county.

The pastor of Trinity Methodist Church and Berea Methodist Church prayed for the schools.

Pate prayed for the town.

“I pray that God will allow Clio, South Carolina to be the lighthouse of the community.”

Pastor Gregory Woods concluded the event. He encouraged people to praise God. Kablan gave it her all but unfortunately was eliminated at Hollywood Week.
