Local author and Bennettsville Primary School teacher Portia Y. Clare is having a book launch celebration for her latest book on Wednesday (April 5).

The celebration with Clare will be from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Kinney Room at Marian Wright Edelman Public Library.

Clare, a third-grade teacher at Bennettsville Primary School, has a new book, “His Name is My Daddy.”

“I am extremely excited about launching my second children’s book,” she said. “My heart is filled with gratitude and thanks for another opportunity to share a meaningful story with children and their families.”

“His Name is My Daddy” is a heartwarming story of a father’s unconditional love for his daughter.

Clare said through the story, Scoopie shares beautiful memories of her relationship with her father as she observed his helpful hands. Over his lifetime, these observations helped to shape and strengthen her faith in and love for him.

Lisa Alderson illustrated, “His Name is My Daddy.” She also illustrated Clare’s first children’s book, “Best Friends Forever: A Puppy’s Tale.”

Clare said Anderson is an outstanding illustrator who helps capture the meaning of the words written.

“My heart’s desire is to continue to write books for children that will help them to recognize their quality, appreciate their value, and navigate through difficult life experiences,” Clare said.

A portion of all book sales during the book launch and preorder stage will be donated to the Man2Man Ministries of Marlboro County.

Her students were invited to participate in the Book Launch Celebration.

During the celebration, there will be giveaways that will come from local businesses in Bennettsville and nearby cities, a short reading of “His Name is My Daddy,” a presentation from Man 2 Man Ministries of Marlboro County regarding their mission and purpose, activities for children, lite fare, and the book signing.

She thanked Mike Cain of Family Affair Catering and Lora Biron of Brew & Bake for helping to sponsor her book launch celebration.

“I am humbled by and grateful for their participation. A thank you also to Man2Man Ministries of Marlboro County for their phenomenal mission and willingness to share this meaningful organization during my Book Launch Celebration,” Clare said.

She added thank you to everyone who has continued supporting and encouraging her to share something meaningful and helpful with children, youth, and families in our community, our country, and worldwide.

“God bless you all, and all the very best to you,” she said.
