McCOLL – The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office conducted traffic safety checkpoints and saturated patrols on Feb. 25.
Chief Deputy Larry Turner said the checkpoints and patrols were conducted in various areas of McColl.
Representatives from Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, Latta Police Department, McColl Police Department, and Society Hill Police Department participated in the checkpoints.
“The checkpoints and patrols were conducted in an effort to be more visible with the intent to deter crime before it happens,” Turner said. “All law enforcement agencies across South Carolina are struggling to keep their agencies adequately staffed. By utilizing assistance from neighboring agencies, we can provide more coverage, if only for short periods of time.”
By doing so, he added, the aim is to convey to the communities that the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office prioritizes the concerns of citizens. Several were arrested, others were issued citations and public contact tickets were made during the operation.
Arrests made during the checkpoints included Jarick Jaleek Thomas, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, unlawful carry of a firearm, and driving under suspension; TySean Jareik Givens, unlawful carry of a firearm, and simple possession of marijuana; Santonio Pierre Covington, unlawful carry of firearm and possession of cocaine; Terry Winfield Greer, unlawful carry of firearm and possession of cocaine; Deionte Dontez Sturdivant, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and unlawful carry of a firearm; and Scott Edward Zimmerman, possession of cocaine.
“These efforts will continue in our communities to be more vigilant and visible with a proactive approach,” Turner said.
