The Utopia Room is a retro game room located at 137 Broad Street in Bennettsville.

Local couple Tidisha Jones and Emil Douglas love retro games and wanted to share the love with the area.

They opened the Utopia Room opened in December at 137 Broad Street in Bennettsville.

The family moved back to Bennettsville over a year ago with three daughters.

Jones said they complained there was nothing to do.

“It is how everything started,” she said.

Utopia is a retro game room with older consoles such as Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, and the original PlayStation.

“We are real family oriented and play a lot of games at home,” she said. “We just thought it would be cool to have a place where people could come.”

The Utopia Room is family oriented and doesn’t serve alcohol.

“We have a ton of board games,” Jones said. “It is a place where families, teens, and kids can come and hang out and be comfortable and safe.”

The Utopia Room is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 4 p.m.-10 p.m.

There is a $12 entry fee and all of the games are set to free play. They don’t have food but have snacks, chips, and candy.

Jones said the grand opening went very well but wanted to get the word out about the game room.

“I want people to know that we are here for the community,” she said. “We would like to be a safe place for kids and teenagers.”

The Utopia Room is also available for party or event rentals.
