A groundbreaking for Trinity Behavioral Care’s new outpatient substance use disorder counseling facility will be held on Sept. 19.

The event will be at 11 a.m. on the site, located one mile west of Walmart at the corner of Highway 9 and David Pond Road.

The 5,000 square-foot facility, funded largely by the SC Legislature, will be the only recovery center of its kind serving Marlboro County citizens. Officials said it will triple the current client capacity.

Trinity has been recognized by SAMHSA, the ONDCP, and SC-DAODAS for its effective provision of care during the COVID-19 pandemic; innovative methods to provide opiate use disorder treatment/prevention in rural areas; and its rapid response to drug overdose spikes.

September is National Recovery month and Trinity Behavioral Care will have a Narcan Drive, beginning at noon on Sept. 19 at Doller Tree, 1146 Cheraw Street in Bennettsville. Officials said it is a chance to celebrate recovery, learn how to keep loved ones safe, and help prevent someone from overdosing.

Trinity Behavioral Care functions as the Marlboro County Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. The organization is a provider within the SC Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services (DAODAS) system.

It provides evidenced-based substance use disorder counseling to over four hundred and fifty Marlboro County citizens annually in addition to prevention initiatives that touch thousands of residents. Trinity is nationally accredited by CARF and licensed by DHEC. The organization’s mission is to reduce the effect of substance use in the areas it serves.

Trinity has provided counseling services in Marion and Dillon Counties since 1972 and became the Marlboro County Substance Abuse Authority in 2005. Its Marlboro County-owned space was lost in 2014 due to illness-causing mold. Since that time, Trinity has operated in a small, leased space within the Tri-County Mental Health Clinic in Bennettsville.
