For the next two Fridays, community members can come out and walk to the rhythm of the Marlboro County High School Mighty Marching Bulldog Band.

Currently, members are in band camp preparing for the upcoming season. Marlboro County High School band director Karalda Perkins said she realized that no one really knows what it takes to prepare the marching band.

“We invite everybody to walk around and see what we do,” she said.

People can come out to McAlpine Stadium from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on Friday and at the same time on Aug. 5.

“We’re not putting on any fancy show,” Perkins said. “But from this week to next week, and next week to the week after, you will begin to see the band come together more and more on what it takes to put the marching part with the music part, to the moves part and the auxiliary part.”

Band camp started on July 20 with about 75 members.

Perkins said they were starting to put the music together. Typically, they have a playlist of 30 to 40 songs.

“We’re working on it. This is just a behind-the-scenes look at our practice,” she said.

The camp runs from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Members march in the mornings before it gets too hot and then they go inside and work on the musical parts.

Perkins said she is excited about the upcoming season and enjoys seeing the band members put in the work.

Karon Sellers thought the band did a wonderful job as she walked around the track.

“I enjoyed it,” said Sellers. “Keeping up with the music made me feel wonderful.”

The band’s first performance will be at the opening football game on Aug. 26.
