Bennettsville Crime Report September 16-18

September 16

At approximately 6:24 a.m., officers responded to a domestic dispute call from a residence on Henry Street. Before officers could arrive at the scene, dispatch alerted them to a woman screaming in the background for a male to quit hitting her. County units were called in to assist. The dispute moved to Sunnybank Lane, where officers finally located the couple after a brief search. The gentleman involved answered the door for officers and stated to them that he and his lady friend had a simple argument and that was the extent of the situation. Inside the home, officers noted signs of a previous confrontation such as spilled soda and items strewn about and knocked over. Unfortunately, the man’s live-in lady friend was not currently in residence, having returned to her other home. When officers still requested to speak with her in order to ascertain her condition, the male contacted the victim by phone. Officers learned from her that the male went through her phone and then became very upset with her. She then stated that he attempted to flip her out of the bed, however, she stated to officers she was able to save herself from a “flipping” by getting out of the bed before the alleged flipping could occur. Next, the female stated the male punched her in her back, despite being aware of already existing back problems suffered by the female. She then decided to leave, but her male companion had other plans, and she said he shoved her to the floor, but she still tried to leave the residence and go to the home of a relative. According to the female, along the way the male continued to punch her. After taking statements from the victim, officers arrested James Dunmore and transported him to the Marlboro Detention Center, where he was subsequently booked and processed. Case closed by arrest.

At approximately 8:09 a.m., officers responded to a business located on Hamlet Highway in relation to a report of disorderly conduct by a white male suspect dressed all in black. At the scene, officers learned the suspect was heckling and threatening employees as they attempted to enter the building for the workday. Employees stated to officers that they first noticed the male loitering in their parking lot and talking to himself. As the employees exited their vehicles, the male began throwing unknown items at their vehicles, but whatever the items were did no damage. The subject next went and stood in the doorway of the building, holding the door open, and shouting. A customer, who tried to enter the building around the shouting man, was unable to gain entry. An employee then decided to call law enforcement for backup. The subject then left and headed towards a nearby car wash, which is where officers located Jeffrey Adams. Officers placed Adams under arrest for disorderly conduct and transported him to the Detention Center. Case closed by arrest.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of trespassing going down at a residence on Cheraw Street. At the scene, family members stated the trespasser had been wandering around the property, even picking up a light they later set back down without damaging. The property owners also stated that the gentleman had already been on their property twice that day and been warned to leave and not return. Officers located the trespasser along with the heavy scent of alcohol, attempting to flee the area. Once detained, the unsteady male was arrested for trespassing and public drunkenness. James Bridges Jr. was then transported to the Detention Center. Case closed by arrest.

At approximately 4:04 a.m., officers responded to a business located on Highway 15-401 Bypass West. At the scene, officers spoke with an employee who stated that a Black male who is not supposed to be in the store, came into the store and swiped a can of Vienna sausages before throwing a dollar on the counter. He then stated to the employee that he was never told nor given any papers stating that he could not patronize the store. Officers learned from the employee that while a trespass order is desired by the business for the gentleman, there is not one currently in place barring him from frequenting their establishment. City units could not locate the trespasser; however, they did return to the store, leaving the trespass paperwork with the employee. Case is active.

At approximately 4:34 p.m., officers responded to a business on Highway 15-401 Bypass regarding a disturbance. At the scene, officers spoke with the manager who stated they were having issues with some guests and wanted them removed from the business property. The manager claimed the couple in question damaged a window screen and door of the business. Officers informed the manager that he would need to prove the suspects had caused the damage. The manager then said he would refund the couple their money if they agreed to leave and officers would issue a no trespass order on the couple. Once these steps were taken, the couple left the premises. Case closed.
