BENNETTSVILLE — After-school students at Bennettsville Primary School recently put their classroom learning into action through the school’s gardening program. Students planted pumpkins and root vegetables, including turnips, carrots, beets, and radishes.
The gardening project began several days before planting as students worked together to prepare the soil. During the activity, they learned about germination, the process through which a seed begins to grow and develop into a plant.
This hands-on experience allowed students to explore science, agriculture, nutrition, and environmental responsibility while developing patience, teamwork, and an appreciation for nature. Over the coming weeks, students will care for the garden and observe the plants throughout each stage of growth.
Through meaningful activities such as the gardening program, Bennettsville Primary School continues to create engaging learning opportunities that help students grow both inside and outside the classroom.
