BENNETTSVILLE — The Bennettsville Police Department [BPD] announced Wednesday it is continuing to investigate the death of Princess Trashaun Simmons McRae in conjunction with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division [SLED] and the Marlboro County Coroner’s Office as officials await additional autopsy results. Simmons McRae died following an incident two weeks ago around Beauty Spot Road.
Police said members of the department met on Sept. 9, with Princess Trashaun Simmons McRae’s mother, father and other family members to discuss the ongoing investigation and provide them with an update on the status of the case.
The BPD says its investigators are working closely with SLED to identify, collect and examine relevant information and evidence, and to follow every available lead, as well as with Marlboro County Coroner De’Aron Smith.
Coroner Smith is waiting for additional autopsy results to be completed before issuing any final findings. BPD says it will continue working with the coroner’s office and SLED as more information becomes available.
The BPD says it recognizes the importance of the investigation to McRae’s family and to the wider community, and pledges to remain committed to “conducting a thorough, professional and comprehensive investigation while protecting the integrity of the process.”
Due to the sensitive nature of the investigation to both the family and the community, officials are asking the public to allow investigators to continue their work, while avoiding sharing unverified information or speculation that could interfere with the investigation.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the Bennettsville Police Department at 843-479-3620. Even information that may seem insignificant could still be important to the investigation, they said.
