At approximately 6:24 p.m., officers responded to a residence located on Hamlet Highway, following a report of a front yard fracas going down between a sister-sister duo. At the scene, officers learned the pair were arguing in the front yard while their mother attempted to play referee. According to their mom, what began as a disagreement between siblings soon devolved into a wig-tossing free for all on the lawn. She said that of her three daughters, the fight occurred between her eldest and middle children. The youngest sister, who was involved in the incident strictly as an “innocent bystander” and get-away driver, eventually was able to remove the middle daughter from the scene by transporting her to another location. Later, when speaking with the middle daughter, who claimed she never wished to fight, officers learned that at some point she went inside her mother’s home and retrieved a knife. Officers next spoke with the elder daughter involved, who claimed she and her sister had always intended to fight that evening regarding the disagreement they were having. She stated to officers the pair had already tried to fight earlier in the afternoon but were interrupted. According to her, she said the mother only came outside when she heard their raised voices. In regard to her middle sister’s wig, she claimed the hair fell off her head due to strength of force when the pair simultaneously struck each other. She further alleged that when her sister went inside the home and got a knife, she also threw an unknown object at her. Officers advised both parties if they wished to press charges, one or both could be subject to arrest following their statements describing their actions. Case is active.
August 12
At approximately 7:28 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Matheson Street following the report of an attempted vehicle theft of a tan in color 1986 Cadillac Fleetwood, value unknown. At the scene, officers learned from the owner that the car, which was last parked under a carport located on the property, was moved. The victim stated they did not believe there to be a set of keys in the vehicle, and officers noted observing evidence that the car’s steering column, or ignition system, appeared tampered with. The car also appeared to be mired in the mud and did not appear easy to move from the yard. Case is active.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., officers responded to a home on Fletcher Street following a report of an incident allegedly involving a knife that occurred at a nearby playground. At the scene, officers learned from the reporting parent that while their three children were playing, another child came up to them and “assaulted” them, though the parent confirmed none of the children were physically harmed during the claimed attack. Officers next spoke with the accused who admitted to striking one of the children, but claimed the move was made in self-defense, as one of the siblings allegedly pulled a knife on them. As the “confession” did not match the other parties accounts, officers advised they would be pulling security camera footage from the area. Case is active.
