At Approximately 10 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Second Avenue following a reported theft of a gas grill, valued at $189. At the scene, officers spoke with the owner of the grill who said he was all set to throw on a couple of steaks when he went outside and discovered his grill stolen. Following an unsuccessful search of the area, officers were unable to locate the grill or any other items that may have been absconded with from the property. Case is active.
At approximately 7:32 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Crestview Drive following a domestic dispute between a step-son and his step-father. At the residence, officers spoke with the son, as his stepfather had already fled the scene, and he admitted to pushing his stepfather down when the man allegedly lunged at him with his cane. The son denied wishing to press charges, however, dispatch alerted officers the mother of the son involved also wished to speak with law enforcement. According to the mother, the son involved has mental health issues and that she does not believe his medicine is working properly. Officers advised her a report is on file at the BPD. Case is active.
At approximately 12:33 a.m., officers responded to a residence following a report of a “Peeping Tom” allegedly taking photos of a female inside the home. At the scene, officers learned from the victim that a family called her after seeing a picture taken of her sitting on her bed inside of her new home. The victim says she just moved to the area and is unsure how someone knows where she is now living. A search of the area failed to turn up any suspicious persons. Officers advised the victim to call if there are any further problems and promised to step up patrolling in the area. Case unfounded.
August 10
At approximately 12:15 a.m., a female victim came into the BPD claiming someone stole her purple in color Taurus X2 hand gun, valued at $290, from inside of her vehicle. The victim stated that she always keeps her gun in her purse, and when she noticed it was a bit lighter than usual, she checked inside and discovered her firearm missing. The victim further stated she believed the gun could have gone missing during a recent visit to Myrtle Beach with friends. She also stated the gun is loaded and her fingerprints would be on the bullets as she loads her own gun. Case is active.
At approximately 3:28 p.m., a female came into the BPD requesting the return of her bicycle. The female stated that when she was previously arrested, her bicycle was taken from her and she was there to get it back. However, the woman refused to provide BPD staff with any identifying information such as her name, or date of and reason for her arrest, instead, choosing to approach the partition window and state, “I want my [expletive] bike.” Officers present advised the female to calm down and cooperate with office staff so her bicycle could be located and returned to her, but the female again stated, “I want my [expletive] bike.” The woman was then instructed to leave the precinct if she could not calm herself and speak politely with staff. Not caring for this advice, the female became increasingly belligerent and disorderly in the lobby, despite officers again explaining they would have to arrest her if she could not get herself under control. Not surprisingly, the female was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Marlboro County Detention Center. Case closed by arrest.
At approximately 5:50 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Marlboro Street following the report of a female needing assistance. Officers learned from the female that her family has been having issues with their neighbors. As she was leaving work, she noticed her neighbors driving by her job location, but did not speak to her. Believing this to be another form of the alleged issues the female described having with her neighbors, she wanted officers to be aware she felt harassed. As no crime was committed, officers advised the female a report would be filed. Case closed.
August 11
At approximately 10 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Hamlet Highway following a report of a domestic dispute between estranged spouses. At the scene, officers spoke with the male as the female was otherwise engaged with shouting obscenities and other unpleasantries at law enforcement. The male immediately handed two firearms over to officers to secure when they arrived, explaining that he had to remove them from his estranged wife’s possession as she had threatened to kill herself with them if he left her. The male explained that he and their three small children were taking the female back to her residence to drop her off when she became combative, demanding he not leave her. After securing the firearms from her, the male stated he then called 911. He stated the female did not threaten to harm him or the children present. Ultimately, the female was able to be calmed down and returned to her residence. Case is active.
