MARLBORO COUNTY — Marlboro County School District proudly congratulates Christy Bradley Gibson, a teacher at McColl Elementary Middle School, on the publication of her article, “Making Math Connections to Students’ Lived Experiences,” in the May 2026 issue of The MathMate, the official journal of the South Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
This outstanding work was co-authored with JoMia Mack of S²TEM Centers SC, an initiative of the South Carolina Coalition for Mathematics & Science (SCCMS) at Clemson University, marking their second publication together in the past three years. The article, featured on pages 18–23, also includes collaboration with Anu and explores how students’ lived experiences both inside and outside the classroom can be used to strengthen mathematical understanding, increase engagement, and create meaningful learning opportunities.
Mrs. Gibson’s publication reflects her unwavering commitment to innovative, student-centered instruction and her belief that every student’s experiences have value in the learning process. Her work not only celebrates the voices and achievements of her students but also contributes to advancing mathematics education for educators across South Carolina.
