BENNETTSVILLE — Cities and towns across America will hold programs to recognize those who served in the military and received the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in combat.
August 7 is the annual National Day of Recognition for America’s wounded warriors. It honors U.S. service members who were wounded or killed in action and received the Purple Heart.
It is the nation’s oldest military decoration, first established by George Washington on August 7, 1782. It is a day for communities to publicly acknowledge sacrifice, courage, and service.
We at the Bennettsville Marine Corps League invite all Marlboro County Purple Heart recipients to come at 7 p.m. to our July 27 meeting at the Bennettsville Community Kitchen located at 106 S. Liberty Street for special recognition as part of the upcoming Purple Heart Day.
