BENNETTSVILLE — An impressive 19-year-old, Anigha Johnson recently started Tiny Threads of Love to give back and help her Marlboro County community. To that end, the organization she founded held its first ever Community Cookout, Field Day, and Back-to-School Bash Saturday on land at 1641 Odom Road in Bennettsville.
According to Johnson, 207 book bags were filled to the brim with school supplies and dental care items for students, which is really the heart of Johnson’s mission.
“I want to help children and families in need. We have clothes and shoes for the family, offer food support when needed such as during holidays or birthdays, help families get in homes… we are all about connecting the community with resources,” Johnson explains.
Her cousin, Lucious Murchison came all the way from Boston to assist Johnson on her big day.
“I am just in awe of her [Anigha], you know she is only 19. When she told me about this awesome event I knew I had to come down here and be a part,” Murchison shared.
Imani Williams with Spiritual Lemonade was also excited to be a part of Tiny Threads of Love’s inaugural back-to-school community event.
“I love coming out here and being a part of the community. Yes, this a great vendor opportunity for me, but I love seeing smiles on the kids faces and knowing the community is having a great time,” Williams said.
An up-and-coming edition to the Bennettsville vendor scene, Williams serves up mouth watering lemonades and is also involved with salves, herbs, and other healthy options though her Facebook page Spiritual Lemonade.
Amy Smith, owner of Amy’s Stuff n’ Things, says she came all the way from Laurel Hill, NC to be a part of the back-to-school event.
“This is my first time coming here and I saw an opportunity and knew I wanted to be a part,” Smith said.
Local mother Ann Souders said it was a blessing for her to get help with school supplies.
“It is so nice to be able to come out today and get some things the kids needs for going back to school,” Souders shared.
