The 26th Annual Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Scholarship Beautillion was held on Sunday, May 2 at 4 p.m.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, the affair was held virtually. The formal Beautillion program was designed to present to the community male high school juniors and seniors after completing leadership training and mentoring sessions on business and entrepreneurship, civics and morality, business and table etiquette, financial literacy, STEM, and dress for success.

There were five high school participants in the Beautillion, which emphasized positive manly deeds, community service, leadership, and academic scholarship consistent with the fraternity’s motto.

The 2022 Beautillion participants were Mr. Demmerial Rivers, the grandson of Mrs. Vivian Bailey. Demmerial is a rising senior at Chesterfield High School. Demmerial was the center for the 2022 Chesterfield High School Basketball Team, a member of the track team, and president of the Chesterfield Youth Chapter of the NAACP. He plans are to attend Oregon State University or The University of South Carolina and pursue a degree in STEM. Demmerial was sponsored by James Hillian and Gene Crawford, Sr.

Mr. Kadarous McCormick is the son of Ms. Cynthia McCormick. He is a 2022 graduate of McBee High School and was a member of the FFA Club. Mr. McCormick plans to attend either NETC, or SC State University. He was sponsored by David Walls and Frederick Freeman.

Mr. Keyon Adams is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Heather Adams. Keyon is a 2022 graduate of Marlboro County High School. He was a member of the BETA Club and received statewide honors as the point guard for the 2021 Marlboro County High School State Championship Basketball Team. Mr. Adams has received a full athletic scholarship to attend Morris College in Sumter, SC. Herbert Gould and Ronnie Moore sponsored him.

Mr. Reginal Primus is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Reginal and Margaret Primus. Reginal is a 2022 graduate of Marlboro County High School. He plans to attend NETC in the Fall and enlist in the United States Navy after graduating from NETC. Mr. Woodrow Blair sponsored was his sponsor.

Mr. Andrew Corbin is the son of Dr. Dennis Corbin. Andrew is a rising senior at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville, NC. Drew is a member of the INTERACT Club. After high school, he plans to attend either Fayetteville State University, JC Smith University or Winston-Salem State University. Rev. Clarence Page sponsored him.

The winner of the 2022 Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated Beautillion Scholarship was Mr. Keyon Adams of Bennettsville, SC. He and was sponsored by Herbert Gould and Ronnie Moore.

All junior and senior high school males are urged to participate in the annual Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship Beautillion. Please contact your high school guidance counselors or go to the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., chapter’s website www.thetaphilambda.org or contact any member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Each February all middle, junior and high school males and females are urged to attend the Annual Saturday Youth Leadership Forum Sponsored by the fraternity in conjunction with NETC and the 4th Judicial Solicitor’s Office.

Total scholarships awarded to the Beautillion participants were over $8,500.00 and other gifts to all participants.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s mission develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for our communities.
