Luck files for re-election to SC House District 54

BENNETTSVILLE – State Representative Jason Luck recently announced he has officially filed for re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives, seeking another term representing District 54, which includes portions of Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, and Marlboro counties.

“Serving the people of District 54 has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Luck said. “In my first year, I delivered historic investments in this district, and I am just getting started.”

During his first term in the General Assembly, Luck helped secure $25 million for the reconstruction of the Lake Paul Wallace dam, which is the largest investment in the project since the dam was built in 1955. The funding will allow SCDNR to begin long-needed repairs that will protect homes, businesses, and residents affected by flooding from Crooked Creek. Luck also assisted in obtaining $325,340 in park and drainage grants for the Town of Society Hill.

“Major infrastructure projects don’t happen overnight,” Luck said. “First you secure the funding, then engineering, then bidding, and then construction. The Lake Paul Wallace project is now moving through that process. That’s what delivering looks like—doing the work before the ribbon cutting.”

“I keep my promises, but we also move at the speed of government. These days, we can’t even get a driver’s license the same day we visit the DMV.”

Luck also supported the FY 2025–2026 state budget, which included investments in teacher pay, workforce training, public safety, and infrastructure. The budget provided a $1,500 salary increase for teachers, expanded scholarship opportunities for South Carolina students, and increased funding for law enforcement and public safety statewide.

In addition to budget priorities, Luck worked on major legislation addressing public safety, education, and energy policy. Measures passed during the session included new protections against organized smash-and-grab shoplifting, stronger laws targeting AI-generated child exploitation materials, and a statewide ban on handheld cellphone use while driving.

“I was elected to represent this district—not a party label,” Luck said. “I will work with anyone, and stand up to anyone, to get results for the people I serve.”

“Representing a rural district is more than just sitting at a desk in Columbia and pushing a button to cast a vote,” Luck said. “It is early mornings reading legislation before session. It is public debates on the House floor and private negotiations behind the scenes. It is late nights back home meeting with constituents. It is knowing the law, knowing your district, and knowing how to move things through the system to deliver results, not talk.”

Luck is an attorney residing in Bennettsville, South Carolina, and is married to Bennettsville’s own Emzee Hilliard. He was first elected to represent District 54 in 2024. The Democratic primary election will be held June 9, 2026.
