BENNETTSVILLE — The Bennettsville City Council voted 5–2 to renew the contract of City Administrator William C. Simon Jr. for an additional four-year term, reaffirming the council’s confidence in his leadership and the direction of the City.
Council members stated that the renewal reflects their commitment to maintaining stability in the city’s administration while continuing to build upon the progress that has taken place in recent years.
During Simon’s tenure as city administrator, the City of Bennettsville has undertaken several initiatives focused on strengthening infrastructure, improving municipal operations, and advancing economic development opportunities for the community, officials said.
Among the accomplishments highlighted by city leadership are continued work on major infrastructure improvements, including wastewater system upgrades and environmental compliance efforts; downtown revitalization initiatives that include the strategic acquisition and redevelopment planning of properties along Main Street; and strengthened financial management practices designed to support long-term planning and sustainability, they said.
City leadership has also worked to expand partnerships with regional organizations and state agencies to bring additional resources and investment into the community, while continuing efforts to improve the overall quality of life for residents through beautification projects, community engagement, and enhanced city services, they said.
Council members noted the city has entered a period of important momentum and that continued administrative leadership will help ensure that ongoing projects and strategic initiatives move forward successfully.
Looking ahead, officials say the city’s priorities include continued infrastructure improvements, additional downtown redevelopment, expanded economic development opportunities, and initiatives designed to support long-term growth and community vitality.
“I am grateful to the City Council for their confidence and continued support,” said Simon. “Most importantly, I want to thank the citizens of Bennettsville for their encouragement and partnership. The progress we have made is truly the result of a collective effort by our city employees, council members, community partners, and residents who care deeply about the future of our city.”
Simon said that he remains committed to building on the work that has already begun.
“Bennettsville is a city with a proud history and tremendous potential,” he said. “I look forward to continuing our work to strengthen infrastructure, support economic development, improve services for our citizens, and help ensure that Bennettsville continues moving forward as a City on the Move.”
