CLIO — At CareSouth Carolina’s Saturday Health Fair held at the Community Center in Bennettsville, Mayor Adam Pate, State Representative Jason Luck and CareSouth Carolina Chief of Community Health Joe Bittle announced the town of Clio is receiving a much-needed food pantry.
The nutritional outreach program is coming soon to the former Rescue Squad building located at 103 Calhoun Street, says Mayor Pate.
“We have been working with CareSouth for over a year on this project trying to find the perfect building to meet a food pantry’s needs. We believe we have found it in the old Rescue Squad building — you know, the building was donated by the Rescue Squad to Clio and the city is now in turn donating the building to CareSouth,” explained Mayor Pate, adding he expects renovations to begin taking place to outfit the facility’s ability to accommodate storing food resources in the near future.
Bittle agreed with Pate that many options were considered before the decision was made to house the new food pantry in the old Rescue Squad building.
“We looked at several sites; something was always not quite right — one even had a gas tank buried on site,” said Bittle.
Site Administrator at the CareSouth Carolina’s McColl Health and Wellness Center, Pat Graham, said she is very excited to hear the welcome news.
“A food pantry is really needed in McColl. The mayor has been so dedicated in getting this project off the ground — I really can’t say enough about all the good things he is doing and has already done to improve Clio,” said Graham.
