<p>The BJ Morrow-Powers family spent the weekend also having fun in the snow, even taking their beloved dog Shelby of 13 years out to cool her paws in it just one more time. The family kindly shared one of their last memories with Shelby with the Herald Advocate, later letting us know that less than 24 hours later their furry family member had passed.</p>

MARLBORO — Well, we asked and you answered Marlboro County!

Herald Advocate staff are very appreciative of all our readers who thoughtfully took the time to answer our call and share their snow day memories from Winter Storm Gianna with us.

A rare southern event, the county averaged seven inches of snow, with some totals locally as high as 11 inches.

Facebook user BigMama Kat shared she measured four inches from her deck in Bennettsville, commenting, “I’ve had a blast, but it can go now.”

For some residents, Winter Storm Gianna proved to be there first experience with the cold, white stuff.

Ronni Delia English celebrated her first snow this 2026, along with little Miss Kashlee Locklear and Raelyn Ponds.

Facebook user Bethany Yates Anderson said Mr. Grant Anderson loved his first big snow!

According to mom Elizabeth Hyatt, two-year old Miles Bryant had a lot of fun. She said, “It was definitely one to remember!”

For Emily Grooms, Gianna’s snowflakes were her second snow. Ms. Kortni Boney said, “She [Emily] loved it!”

Across Marlboro County lawns a parade of snow people in various inventive garb decorated yards for most of the week.

Aidan, Layla, and Gracie named their snowman Chilly Willy, while Issac and Jacob Speight, along with friends, built a snowman named Mr. McFreeze.

At Denistry on Broad, Flossy the Snowman kept the snow down to a minimum.

Specializing in creativity in miniature, Grayson Mizell uniquely built a tiny snowman protector to sit on the railing of his home’s deck.

All in all, Marlboro County came through Winter Storm Gianna, or Snowmegeddon 2026, safely and with memories residents will cherish for many years to come.
